In September and October, American Chamber/Mexico, sent a trade mission to Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon, jointly with the Jalisco State Government and with the support of JALTRADE, as part of its initiative to promote bilateral trade between Mexico and the U.S.

Secretary for Economic Promotion Guillermo Martínez Mora and President of the AmCham Guadalajara Division’s Board of Directors Jaime Rábago were entrusted with the task of launching the delegation’s activities during a breakfast held by the Seattle Greater Chamber of Commerce and the Washington State Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development.

The visit provided a good opportunity to strengthen ties with local chambers and foreign trade-oriented economic development organizations.  Furthermore, institutions such as Portland Trade Alliance, Portland Sister City Association, Portland University and Oregon Economic & Community Development, as well as others, also took part in the mission’s events.

These institutions were in charge of holding press conferences, one-to-one meetings with local businessmen, networking events, visits and trips, as well as reception breakfasts and lunches, which provided a good stage for presenting products and services from the State of Jalisco.  Some highly productive meetings were also held with Washington State Governor Chris Gregoire and top executives from Microsoft and Boeing, who expressed their interest in contacting software suppliers and developers in Jalisco.

The delegation also enjoyed the participation and support of the Mexican Consulate in Seattle, where the delegation and local businessmen were invited to taste tequila as part of the mission’s social events.

The delegation consisted of 17 businessmen from different sectors, including JALTRADE Director Alejandro Allera, and established trade relations with local companies in different fields to create better opportunities for trade between Jalisco and the states of Washington and Oregon.

Soon to come will be giving you some success stories concerning the participants of this delegation.
